This new rectangular silver coin was issued to commemorate 17th International Chopin Piano Competition - one of the oldest music competitions in the world. Struck from 4 oz silver 999 and decorated with fine digital printing, the coin has got a limited worldwide mintage – only 600 pieces.

Both sides of the coin are an impressive fusion of pure silver and interesting graphical design highlighting Chopin’s portrait and various musical attributes in fine detail. Apart from the traditional effigy of Her Majesty Elizabeth II, the obverse features the image of Chopin’s hands on a piano keyboard. There are also the following inscriptions: the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin, its metal fineness, issuing country and year.

The reverse boasts a detailed portrait of Frederic Chopin against the background of a stylized score. The musician’s signature is also here. He was a Polish composer and virtuoso pianist and is considered one of the great masters of Romantic music. Chopin was composing and writing poetry at six, and gave his first public concerto performance at the age of eight. The coin has got an unusual rectangular shape and measures 45 x 90 mm. It comes housed in a specially designed box and a stylized outer packaging. Quite a nice piece for a classical music lover!
