In the series “The Most Beautiful Polish Love Stories” we present romantic couples, whose fates, often surrounded by an aura of mystery, were joined by intense feelings and great passion.

A tempestuous love affair between Sigismund II Augustus and his consort Barbara Radziwiłł was a source of inspiration to design the fourth coin from the series “The Most Beautiful Polish Love Stories”. The romance started as a trivial love affair and gradually transformed into a long-lasting court intrigue, culminating in a secret marriage and coronation of the royal mistress. The magnificent silver token constitutes an oval portrait of the couple derived from historical paintings. It is rimmed by elaborately decorated frame, adorned with elegant SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS.

REVERSE

Colorful portrait of Sigismund II Augustus and Barbara Radziwiłł, rimmed by an ornamental frame. Left-hand – decoration with SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS. In the upper part of the coin – inscriptions: Zygmunt August/Barbara Radziwiłłówna.

OBVERSE

In the central part of the coin – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, Vilnius. Left-hand – effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Above it – face value: 1 DOLLAR. Below, along the rim – inscriptions: ELIZABETH II, NIUE ISLAND (issuer), 2015 (year of issue), Ag 999 (hallmark), m/w (mint mark).
