For hundreds of years white doves have been symbols for peace and love. The white dove is also of great importance in Christianity. In the Old Testament this deeply symbolic bird represents the reconciliation between God and his people. Noah sent forth a dove from his ark and when it returned with an olive twig he knew that the flood was over.
The white bird with the peace twig is considered as the political peace symbol. When a pair of doves get together they stay together for life. The tradition of letting a dove fly on your wedding day was already popular among the Romans. It is always an emotional moment when the doves are set free by the bride.
